New portal launched to assist pharmacists with CPD accreditation

Leading generics pharmaceutical company, Pharma Dynamics, has launched a digital platform to make earning Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certification easy for time-constrained pharmacists.

This follows the announcement by the South African Pharmaceutical Council that pharmacists will be required to engage in CPD activities on a continuous basis in the near future.

Ysette Musto, Key Accounts Manager at Pharma Dynamics, says that this decision is not surprising as other professionals in the health care space have been required to present CPD accreditation for years under the supervision of the South African Medical Association (SAMA).

“The Pharma Dynamics SmartPharm portal is an online solution that offers several accredited questionnaires for pharmacists to access and complete conveniently from the comfort of their home or office. There are also questionnaires suitable for pharmacist assistants.”

The first edition of SmartPharm includes topics such as the link between the immune system and hypertension; complications from influenza that could result in patients with a history of heart disease or stroke; the prevention and treatment of the common cold; as well as mask use and hand hygiene, and seasonal influenza like illness among young adults.

Upon completion, pharmacists are furnished with a certificate that can be kept for when the PCSA conducts its audit.

Musto explains that the topics for the questionnaires tie into seasonal health concerns to ensure the content is relevant. The second edition will likely focus on climate change and the effect on respiratory and allergic disease.

Simply visit and click on the SmartPharm tab to complete the short questionnaire. Once the test has been passed a certificate will be e-mailed directly to your email account to be filled in your portfolio of evidence.
